It's emotionally impossible to be without onions in the house. I get scared when it's down to one. The thought of zero terrifies me. I won't consider it. Same with garlic. I'm down to 1/4th of a bulb and I'm getting nervous, but I have a full 3# bag of onions at the moment so I should be fine.

Where would we be without the Allium family? :o) Bless 'em one and all.

Do you realize your essays are actually better without the comment section? I never thought I'd think so, but now I do. Maybe you're less distracted by responding and discussing and can distill the essence of the subject.

I agree with Joe [as I usually do], your essays ARE getting better with the distraction of responding to comments.

It is a treat to follow the twists and turns of your brilliant mind! Keep 'em coming. :-D

Joe, joe, joe, joe, neith, neith, neith neith ... thank you for telling me this.

Yes, I am way less distracted and it's been a fascinating experiment. Life is full of surprises. I figured I'd be out of here, but I love writing so much, I might keep it up after all.

In the end, it's all about my search for continual development and self realization. If I can take this ability to express myself with the pure distilled essence onstage with me, things could be good, and I could be the artist I want to be. Or am. My invisible audience. Well, they've always been invisible, really! I'm learning to pick up clues through the ethers. To see myself through my own eyes. But actual words of encouragement are wonderful occasionally.:o)

Can you believe? I exist.

I'll do anything to flee boredom and chase the illusive masterpiece.:o)

Hi JM,

Been meaning to comment about the film Mystic Masseur. Was it ever released in the cinema? Hadn't heard of it before you mentioned it. I'm from that part of the world, and read V.S. Naipaul's novels many years ago. If you're interested in books,The Mystic Masseur was published as part of a trilogy in 1982. The other stories were The Suffrage of Elvira, and Miguel Street, all good, but imho, Naipaul's best fictional work is his first novel, A House for Mr. Biswas.
I've been reading your RU site for years, but have never commented. I think you're extremely intelligent, gifted - definitely Uranian. I don't know why, but you remind me of Joni Mitchell, the singer/composer with the same initials as yours!
Fancy you knowing about the Mighty Sparrow even in your neck of the woods! Wonderful surprise.

TS, what a wonderful comment, speaking of surprises. The Caribbean is my favorite part of the world and I love the music, especially Haitian and reggae. The Mighty Sparrow at his best is the most danceable joyous music ever, and the islands have the best beat on earth. I use those beats in my own music. They come naturally to me.

I remember a hot long afternoon in Haiti once, in the hotel. An employee padded across the lobby floor in her bare feet in perfect synch with the music on the radio and I entered paradise. I'll see those feet forever.

The Mystic Masseur is on film and it is a charming expression of the story, with characters I went wild for, with their Hindi patois.

Thank you heartily for the reading suggestions. I haven't read Naipaul yet, so this is good. I'm back into novels again after a separation. I discovered a new one ... Tony D'Sousa. A great writer, Indian-Anglo mix.

Amazing about Joni Mitchell. I didn't even connect the initials! She happens to be the only popular musician I truly admire. Her truth to herself and her artistic talent is singular. Very interesting. I'm always relieved to think about her and her lack of pandering and foolishness when it comes to the audience. Her solo journey into imagination.

This is great input, TS. It verifies why I stick around. I think the whole thing is actually working out.

Agree about Joni

Did you know she is part Sami? When I discovered this her amazing voice suddenly made sense- the joik!

I'm home and must, must have security of onions and garlic, With olive oil and sweet basil you are halfway to a divine meal regardless of what is added next.

And if I didn't mention it before, I certainly meant to, I agree about the writing on RU without comments. Your writing is what I wish i could do.

i agree with joe and neith as well....something i think of often as an artist: how much do we communicate with the audience?
my sun/uranus just feels belligerent ("Let me do what I want, peanut gallery!")
ha ha ha
(I'm feeling feisty today)

Part Sami? Really?

I agree about olive oil and basil. And that is an incredible compliment, tseka, about the writing. I wish I could translate that into my stage performance but how can I? I also wish I could be as true to myself as you are in your paintings.

I'll get there. This was a fantastic experiment and I certainly didn't plan it. The question of how much we communicate with the audience is a good one. Probably not much. At least not consciously. The audience is looking for specific clues to attach to, unrelated to artistic truth. It all gets mixed up and something works itself out over time with trial and lots of error. I feel that as I age now, I'll get better and truer. I could be ready finally.

I was thinking tonight walking under the almost full summer moon ... I have nothing to lose. I'm just beginning.

Exhaustion hit, but your last comment resonates, re the writing, I'll drop by when I can corral my thoughts. The trip to Bellevue and the show were very illuminating. In many respects it was the best show in years, a completely different energy- echoing much of what you have written recently on RU.
Be back soon.
