Silent trumpets

That plant has almost too many names to keep track of! Angel's trumpet, datura, jimsonweed, moon flower all come readily to mind.

Speaking of moon flowers, if you ever get a chance to plant Calonyction album, also known as Moonflower vine, take the opportunity! If you can get it to bloom, the fragrance is out of this world. It differs from the similar morning glory in one significant way: it only blooms at night.

Photos can be seen here.

Joe, you are a fount of information. This is wonderful as usual. I just came across these fascinating flower photos and my attention skyrocketed. You are so right. Just like morning glories. I wonder if they are hallucinogenic as well.

It's delightful to see all those commenters interested in flowers.
Thanks, joe. You are a marvel.

This just makes me love Blogland and the human family. What an invention and what a time we're in.

You're welcome. :o) I have one growing in a protected corner of the yard. Hope it blooms well this year.

Dunno if they're hallucinogenic, but all parts, including the leaves, are quite toxic, so I understand.

Yes they are hallucinogenic. Carlos Castaneda writes about it.
